Post Holiday Fitness Strategy
Firstly lets understand...How to lose weight?
Put simply, if you eat more calories than you use, you will put on weight and conversely if you burn more calories than you consume; you will lose weight. This seems simple but in reality though, it isn't always. Three elements need to be working together for us to succeed, these are:
· Exercise - Both cardiovascular (working the heart and lungs, huff and puff!) and resistance training (toning and strengthening)
· Healthy eating (and drinking!) - eating and drinking the right things at the right times, remember EVERYTHING IN MODERATION. If you completely cut out those lovely naughty things, how long realistically will that last?? A day, a week, a month... So cut down on the
bad things, those chocolates, sweets and alcohol! And you'll find that those cravings lessen over time. Added to the increased amount of exercise you're going to be doing! and it's a win win win.
· Lifestyle changes - Do you really need to drive to the shop? Do you have to always use the escalators? Little changes make for big rewards.
So, top strategy tips for post holiday weight blues...
· Start right away to recommit to healthy eating and exercising. Don't wait until Monday or the first of the month, start now!
· Realise the occasional indulgence is ok, you may have had plenty whilst away so cutting them all out is unlikely to work. Instead make sure you have plenty of healthy options in the house for when cravings come along.
· Be positive! Feeling down for your recent inactivity and poor diet isn't helpful. Instead, remain upbeat and sure enough as results start to turn in your favour motivation will lift and it will all feel worthwhile.
· Enjoy! Results are far more likely the more you can try and enjoy the challenge. Exercising with a friend either in a class setting or simply walking can be a great way to share the anxiety and make it more fun.
· Hire a personal trainer. Results are far more likely to be quicker and more effective as the training is highly specific to your requirements as well as being fun.
