Article Number Five
Age is no barrier
Many of the current fitness and sporting trends are geared towards the young ‘fit and spritely’. This of course is a shame, we are getting older as a population and so there is a greater need to not alienate the so called ‘older’ generation. Today’s article is looking at the over 50’s age group and beyond, discussing the reasons why exercise is of such importance.
Firstly here is a small collection of excuses I hear from individuals I speak to, all of which are over 50, 60, 70 and more:
· I feel far too old, frail and weak now a days to work out.
· The body doesn’t need so much activity now as I don’t do so much myself.
· I am more likely to hurt myself so it’s not a good idea.
· With my medical condition it’s really not a good idea.
Whatever age, exercise is vital and holds many benefits. For the ‘older’ generation exercise can help reduce, postpone or even get rid of the development of such nastys as arthritis, osteoporosis and heart disease (amongst others).
Another big misconception I invariably hear regularly is that age is a barrier to improving elements of physical fitness. Whether you are 20, 60 or even 90 you can make steps to improve your overall fitness, strength and mobility. Age is no barrier.
So where do you go from here? Well there are many routes to go down. You could hire your very own personal trainer, you could join a gym/health club, you could use the great outdoors and getting walking, cycling etc or you could stay at home and miss out on the great feeling of achieving those desired goals. Whatever age, there simply is no better feeling than optimum health.
For any advice please do get in contact, I would be delighted to help you, whatever age!
